High Definition

Though HDTV is very sharp and clear in its quality as of today, its quality is bound to improve over the next few months and years. The advent of HD DVD players allowed consumers who already had 1080p High definition television sets to be able to view a full HDTV image. The following standards are considered High definition viewing,
1280×720p @ 24fps (frames per second)
1280×720p @ 30fps
1280×720p @ 60fps
1366×768p @ 30fps
1920×1080p @ 24fps
1920×1080i @ 30fps
1920×1080p @30fps
These numbers refer to the number of pixels on screen , vertically and horizontally and the frames per second which tells us how often the screen is refreshed. This rate is generally so fast that the screen refreshes before the blink of an eye. The curent HDTV’s being sold are of the 1920*1080p models, these being the highest definition possible as of date. This however is leading to some confusion as noone is curently broadcasting in the 1080p format, which means that the first half of the screen gets refreshed before the second half.
1080p refreshes the screens at one go and is available with the new DVD players entering the market. However there are arguments whether 720p which is a progressive scan is better than the 1080i interlaced scan, but this only addresses one feature of the quality issue. The main issue is the pixels, the more the pixels the better the quality. The best resolution till recent times was 1366*768, but the new 1920*1080 offers a better resolution, but that does not imply that they offer better picture quality.
There are other features important to picture quality such as deep blacks, contrast, brightness, color and quick refreshing of the screen which can be decided by the viewer at the time of purchase.
There are many types of HDTV’s in market today which include Plasma, LCD, rear projection front projector, SED, LcoS etc. There are many options in the market, the best advice to the consumer is to do your homework before entering the store.

High Definition Television – try asking a fifty year old man five years ago what it is and most likely you will get a face that looks as confused as you feel. But is the concept really that alien? Actually, the concept of High Definition television was popular in Japan for many years. It is only in the last couple of years that this concept has caught up with the Americans as well. And then one day boom, every one is talking about it. It has taken hold of the United States in a big way. Perhaps the most basic things one needs to know about High Definition TV or HDTV as it is more popularly known, is that is a totally separate television format from its predecessors; the normal television. Knowledge of this fact alone can help one understand the nature of high definition television and how one can take advantage of it in one’s home entertainment center.
So the next logical question that should pop up in your mind is “How is satellite TV different from normal television?” Satellite TV differs from normal in several ways like:
• All high definition television programming has the same 16:9 aspect ratio unlike normal television which usually does not have this feature.
• Picture Resolution: Television pictures are usually measured in the number of horizontal line resolution that they are composed of and the pattern that the lines are scanned onto the screen. For example; standard definition television has four hundred and eighty horizontal lines that are scanned in two separate steps: First the odd numbered lines are scanned onto the screen. A fraction of a second later, the even numbered lines is scanned, creating an illusion of a complete picture. This pattern is called an Interlacing Pattern and hence the standard definition television is said to have a resolution of 480i, whereas high definition television can have resolutions of 720i, 1080i.
These differences between standard definition and high definition television make it easy to understand why there is a need for high definition television programming in order to get the most of your high definition TV set.
Dish Network offers twenty five national channels at the entry level and thirty national channels in the premier level of high definition programming packages. Although this might not sound like a lot of channels, it remains a fact that this is the maximum number of channels provided by any service provider for high definition television programming. Plus, Dish also delivers cost efficient high definition television programming packages in markets where they are offered.
Purchasing this High Definition Television package is relatively simple and involves the same steps that one would take while signing up for a satellite TV package.

There are many benefits in Digital TV. Many different sectors in the entertainment industry has come together to make this technology the sole way for broadcast transmission. TV broadcasters, consumer electronics industry and Federal Government have decided to make TV airing totally digital starting on February 19, 2009.
Without considering any economic or political benefit or pitfall, digital TV will definitely bring a number of benefits after it replaces the old analog format which is in use right now.
The new digital format will use computer equipment to convert images and sound of a TV into digital format before transmitting to the viewers. When the TV signal arrives at the destination, another computer device will cleanse the interference out of the signal and reconstruct it in to the TV programming to let the viewer enjoy clear pictures and great sound. This is one great improvement that viewers can expect when digital TV takes over analog TV. Another added feature of the digital TV is it allows an on-screen program guide even when programming is being aired. There are also some other similar features with this new digital TV. Digital TV transmission uses compression technology that will take up less bandwidth. This will leave more frequencies for other purposes.
With all the advantages surrounding digital TV, there are some little drawbacks that make it inferior to analog TV in some area. For instance, the analog TV can transmit a greater distance than digital TV. Even if you are far away from the analog TV source, you would still be able to get understandable TV. At worst cases, the picture will become fuzzy and not clear. As for the digital TV, the picture quality will fade as it gets further from the source and will disappears when it reaches its maximum distance. Therefore, there are still some viewers sticking to analog TV because they might not be able to get a strong digital signal in their area. So, they are better off with analog TV. So, this reason makes the huge antennas on the rooftop popular again.
Another disadvantage of digital TV is the need for a TV tuner. This TV tuner is not built in the older TV sets. Therefore, after 19 February 2009, one will have to get a new TV set or purchase a special TV box to convert the analog signal to digital signal so that it can be shown through the TV screen.
This means that the electronic manufacturers will make huge profit. This is the so-called political and economical advantages that consumers are unhappy with. Whatever case it may be, they will have to sell of their analog TV set or convert it when the day of digital TV comes.
In the long run, TV viewers in America will benefit from the introduction of digital TV. Although they may be confused and frustrated over the change, they will realize that this change is a change for the better.

Dish Network will officially launch their new promotion come February 2008. This new promotion will replace their old one which offers the DishHD programming with a new package that offers 3 months of free programming. However, this irresistible offer comes with a 24 month term agreement.
Reading the terms and condition thoroughly, you will find notice:
• A credit of $39.99 will be applied to customer’s 1st, 10th, and 20th month of service for a total value up to $119.97.
• Applicable to qualifying new customers with a 24-month term agreement,
• Customer must maintain AT100 or higher, DishLATINO or higher, or qualifying
• DishINTERNATIONAL programming,
• Offer is not available with DishFAMILY
Here are the good and bad news about this new offer from Dish Network
Although the terms are a little longer than the 18th months with the previous offer, you are still benefiting from this. Just do the mathematic and you will see that it is better than the old contract.
Dish Network will waive the $49.99 activation fee if you sign up with this 24 month contract package. This deal seems to be great. However, your account won’t see a credit for the same credit on the bill of the first month. With this package, you will get access to a good repertoire of entertainment packages. This service from Dish Network is definitely better than the service from Direct TV. You can find out the difference between the two providers just by viewing a few comparison charts.
Dish Network provides you with better choices no matter you are in for local, cultural or international cultural. They also provide better and more economical packages for you to choose from. Dish Network has beaten all of their competition with all these benefits.
To add to that, for those who likes SIRIUS music, they can obtain it with Dish Network. An added plus which you cannot find with any other service provider.
With this new 24 months contract package, Dish Network will still deliver, install and maintain their equipment for free. Furthermore, no deposit is required. There are some dealers who charge up to $400 in deposit for Direct TV. However, this is only based on the specific dealer that I approach. Other dealer may have a better price.
Not so long ago, a flyer from Direct TV was dropped into my mailbox. In the flyer, it stated that Direct TV offers the best price and has no other competition. On that same day, ironically, I also receive a flyer from Dish Network. I made a comparison and found out that Direct TV is not the cheapest as it was stated. In fact, the packages that they offered were $10 more expensive for the basic package and $20 more expensive for the premium package.
In overall, Dish Network was rated number one by J. D. Powers for their customer satisfaction and service. With all the benefits from Dish Network, it is fair to say that there are worthy competitors around. However, with the dominance form Dish Network, Direct TV still has their strengths. For ordering online, both of these company offers 24 hours service. However, if you were to order via their call center, you won’t get 24 hours service because their centers shuts down at midnight Eastern Standard Time Zone.
In conclusion, consumers should really go for Dish Network because they just beat down their competitors offering the best service and price which you cannot find in another service provider company. Do it now because when we reach February 17th 2009, the broadcasters go 100% digital. By then, if you don’t have a cable or satellite TV system, you will have to live your life without TV.

They have thirteen million homes tuning on a daily basis. Direct TV offer over 225 channels of digital programming for their viewers. These amounts of channels will definitely keep families entertained. With a study based on El Segundo in Southern California, Direct TV has been providing satellite TV programming to the public since the summer of 1994.
Since the beginning, Direct TV has already built up their system with seven satellites in geosynchronous orbit. This is how Direct TV is able to offer high quality TV to their subscribers. With the improvement of technology, satellite TV users have benefited the most because of the impact of digital compression.
Initially, digital compression technology was only able to let each satellite based transponder to process one channel resulting in only 25-31 channels being transponded per satellite. With this, cable TV companies were able to take advantage over satellite TV companies with the capability of providing more channels. However, this trend all changed in 1993.
Satellite TV started to have an edge over cable TV after the introduction of the first class DBS commercial satellite. After this satellite was launch, it really changed the way of TV entertainment. This new satellite contains 16 onboard radically polarized DBS Ku band transponders. This enables multi digital signals to transmit via the satellite. Each of these satellites can broadcast 120 watts per transponder.
This new technology has turned satellite TV programming as the best TV service for millions of home across North America at a very affordable cost. Before, satellite TV was only popular among a small quantity of viewers because it’s expensive cost and few channels.
In 1994, a new 18 inch dish was introduced by Direct TV that provides wider choice in family programming, a feature that has made satellite TV so popular nowadays. This change to satellite TV began even in 1994 when satellite TV became a very popular product.
Then, Direct TV solidifies their position as one of the best satellite TV providers by launching their second satellite. This new satellite enabled Direct TV to provide over 150 channels. This amount of channels was a great edge over cable TV that was only able to offer 35 channels at most. Since then, Direct TV has never looked back to set new standards in broadcasting offering interactive programming, high definition, multicultural and DVD option to families.

Cable TV

The era of satellite television has begun. In the past few years, satellite television providers have turned tables on their cable counterparts, who committed the grave mistake of misunderstanding the power of their competitors, and gripped the television distribution market with awe.
When satellite television viewing was first introduced, the cable operators did not bother much about it as the dishes were expensive and were too big and bulky. They presumed that the industry wouldn’t last for long and since they had been in business for over a decade people would still prefer them to the satellite television providers. But little did they realize that the satellite television industry was here to stay.
The dishes soon got sleeker, the systems improved, prices dropped, quality went up and customer satisfaction rose.
As per recent surveys satellite customers pay $10 less than their cable counterparts. The viewing is in an all-digital format and the reception and picture quality is topnotch.
Cable operators provide for an upgrade to digital however they do not guarantee that all the channels will be included in the same. In addition the increasing competition, the satellite television industry assures a constant competitive pricing. This makes satellite TV a much preferred choice of entertainment media when compared to the normal cable network.

Its dinner time and the whole family sits together, eats, laughs, discusses the dealings of the day and watches their favorite show together. Discussions regarding characters of the show, their lives and their stories grip the whole family sometimes even unconsciously. TV time has always been a family affair and this where the crux of the whole television industry lies.
However what if you wish to view a different program, something that no body other than you in the family is interested in watching. Or what if you missed out a major chunk of the program you were currently viewing and are now lost as to where the story is heading.
How can you watch what you desire without stomping in on the all so important family time?
The satellite television providers provide the solution. They allow for you to tune the TV with your PC using a PCTV tuner and this allows you to record the shows you desire to. Also you can access various channels by browsing the Internet with this software.
It all depends on the speed of the Internet, the faster the net, and the better the viewing. Unlike normal TV viewing, TV on PC provides for better transmission as it all depends on the speed of the connection and is not affected by any physical changes in the direction of the dish, wind pressure etc.
This new technology has eliminated the hassles of antennas. There used to be a time where the taller your antenna the better the reception you get.
However with all of these new technologies, all you need is a good speed Internet, a tuner and a chair to enjoy uninterrupted and quality service on your PC.
